Italian marble is a multipurpose building material used in construction projects. It is available in different color variants as well as in different types of finishes. Some are honed surfaces, smooth surfaces, polished, sandblasted, split-faced, flamed marble, rough-honed marble, marble, and more. Some prefer to purchase honed-finished Italian marble as it does not magnify the scratches on it. At Shri Paras Marble Group, we do the honing process for Italian marble.
The different finishes of Italian marble have their own unique character, and they are chosen based on the requirements of the architect and the interior designers. In this blog, we will walk you through the different finishes of Italian polished marble in detail.
What is the Italian Marble Abrasive treatment?
A process where the surface of marble is changed through a superficial process using different equipment to get the required finishes.
Here are the two different methods of Italian marble abrasive treatment.
- Italian Marble Natural Abrasive Method: In the natural abrasive method, natural stones such as quartz, sandstone, diamond, corundum, and emery are used for polishing the marble; however, this is not recommended to get a fine, rough marble finish. Hence, in the majority of cases, artificial abrasive methods are preferred.
- Italian Marble Artificial Abrasive Method: In the artificial abrasive method, they use boron nitride, aluminum aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and more. Using this product, you can get a fine finish on the Italian marble that can be easily polished, sharpened, and even rectified.
Different types of Italian Marble Finishes
Here is the list of different types of Italian marble finishes discussed below in detail.
- Roughly Honed Italian Marble: The roughly honed Italian marble is the next step after the sawing process. The finish of the marble will be matte, and the scratches on the surface will not be visible. For a rough Italian marble finish, a carborundum disc is used to achieve the rough honed finish on the Italian marble.
- Chiseled Italian Marble: This marble is achieved by carving the grooves in different thicknesses on the surface of the marble, just as the chisels used earlier.
- Antiqued Italian Marble: To get this kind of finishing on the marble, we use different kinds of brushes to provide a smooth but rugged finish. The antiqued Italian marble is usually used for indoor wall cladding, floor tiles, and splashbacks.
- Split-faced Italian Marble: Using the chisels by striking them on the marble surface, it produces the chips with a more abrupt aspect. The split-faced Italian marble finishes are achieved only using the chisel. This is best suitable for the indoor walls and outdoor cladding in facade marble.
- Flamed Italian Marble: The flamed Italian marble is done by using a high, intense heat that aids in achieving a coarse, uneven finish. This kind of marble is ideal for outdoor cladding, splashbacks, and indoor walls.
- Fine Smooth Finish Italian Marble: The fine smooth polished Italian marble is achieved through the repeated application of abrasives on the surface of the marble. This helps to get a fine, smooth, glossy finish. Further, the fine polishing will lose the marble porosity. As the surface of marble is very smooth and polished, it is not suggested for bathrooms or any wet areas as it causes a slippery surface. It is advised to use it on cladding and splashbacks.
